On December 20, 2023, Ronald Rousseau, Professor of Ku Leuven in Brussels, visited National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences(NSLC) and gave a lecture as a CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) Distinguished Scientist.
Professor Rousseau delivered a lecture titled "The rise of bibliometrics: the number of articles dealing with metrics grows faster than the Web of Science itself". The lecture systematically elaborated on the development and prosperity of bibliometrics amidst the explosive growth of scientific literature, as well as the new demands and challenges faced by the discipline. Professor Rousseau also shared his views and suggestions on future research and application directions. The lecture brought new concepts and perspectives and a broader view to the librarians and students of NSLC.
Professor Rousseau is one of the most influential experts in the field of scientometrics internationally. He has served as the president of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI) for two terms and was awarded the highest honor in the field of scientometrics, the Derekde Solla Price Award, in 2001. Since 1998, Professor Rousseau has visited NSLC for several times and has engaged in fruitful collaborations.
