In order to promote the construction of first-class STM journals and to give full play to the resource advantages of the organizers and journals, an academic seminar on STM journal publishing was held in National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) on June 6, 2023. The seminar invited Dr. Yao Yonggang, director of the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Editor-in-Chief of Zoological Research, to give a talk. Nearly 50 people attended the seminar.
Dr. Yao presented a report entitled "Retrospect of the Independent Development Process of ZR and ZRDC". In the report, Dr. Yao reviewed the history of ZR becoming the first-class STM journal. by showing ZR's experience in disseminating and publishing China's own scientific research achievements, he emphasized that high quality journals are good means for China to be heard by the global academic community. He shared the experience of running journals in terms of academic integrity, publication standards, publication process, editorial board construction and journal publicity platform.
Participants exchanged their views on topics including STM journals being self-reliant, first-class STM journal construction, journal autonomy, editorial board establishment and models, cluster development, preprints, etc. This seminar broadened the views of journal editors, and provided good guide for building high-quality journals and journal management.
