On March 24th, 2017, the Tenth Chinese Academy of Sciences Journal Salon “the exploration and practices of scientific journals’ internationalization” was successfully hosted. It was sponsored by the Society Of Scientific and Technological Periodicals,CAS and held by the Institute of Electronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (IECAS). Professor Zhang Wei, vice director-general and secretary general of Society Of Scientific and Technological Periodicals,CAS, Professor Ding Chibiao, deputy director of IECAS, Professor Tong Jiahua, young scientist of IECAS,attended this academic salon. Over 30 editorial offices from nationwide and more than 50 editors from related institutions participated in this salon.
This salon consisted of two parts: keynote report and editorial forum. Doctor Liu Tuanjie, editor-in-chief of Microsystems & Nanoengineering(English version)and director of the periodical department of IECAS was specially invited to give a keynote report on “the exploration and practices of scientific journals’ internationalization”. Jia Shouxin, editorial director of Journal of Radars and deputy director of the periodical department of IECAS, presided over this report. In this report, Doctor Liu Tuanjie introduced the development status of Microsystems & Nanoengineering(English version), co-published by IECAS and Nature Publishing Group (NPG). He shared his experience in the practice of internationalization, the construction of talent team in the English journal editorial office as well as his thinking before and after this English journal starting its publication.
After this report, starting from the practice of Microsystems & Nanoengineering(English version), representatives of this salon had a heated discussion on several issues, including how to enhance the academic quality and international influence of scientific journals, how to choose the publication platform for English journals, the duty and task of editor-in-chief and the member of editorial board, the service and communication function of editorial offices, funds for managing journals as well as personnel training. They also shared their unique experience of managing journals.
Professor Zhang Wei, vice director-general and secretary general of Society Of Scientific and Technological Periodicals,CAS, emphasized that the major task of ESSP was to provide a platform and various opportunities of communication and learning for journal editors to display their special work and methods. ESSP sponsored this salon to help editors learn good experience that can be used for references from communication and discussion. If this good experience can be reproduced, it will play a significant role in promoting the international development of China’s academic journals and scientific journals of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
