Berlin 8 Open Access Conference Was Held in NSL

Berlin 8 Open Access Conference was held in National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) on Oct 25-27, 2010. The conference was hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, and Max Planck Society (MPS), themed by Implementation Progress, Best Practices, and Future Challenges. It focused on OA Strategies, Policies, and Implementation of Scientific Information, including National OA Strategies, Institutional OA Strategies, OA Publishing, Institutional Repository, Open Date, open education, OA Strategies Assessment and OA Support Tools, ect. 96 foreign participants came from 23 countries, 64 institutes and organizations, 139 native participants came from more than 100 institutes and libraries.

Prof.LU Yongxiang, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof.Peter Gruss, Chairman of the Max Planck Society, were the Honorary Chairs. 61 experts from home and abroad were invited to give presentations.

Berlin Open Access Conference is one of the largest, most popular forums with most participants. It has been held 7times in European countries. It is the first time that the Conference was held out of the European continent.

During the conference, Chinese Academy of Sciences announced its open access practices, supporting and promote OA policies, promoting OA publishing, improving open access of scientific information, promoting reformation and innovation of scholarly communication, and building up open information infrastructures. The Platform for Open Access Journals (CAS-OAJ) and the development of Institutional Repository Grid (CAS IR Grid) were released on the Conference.
