From October 11th to 13th the Knowledge Service of Academic Journals in a Mobile and Open Environment" Periodical Salonwas successfully held in the Wuhan Branch of the National Science Library.This salon was hosted by the Editological Society of Scientific Periodicals of Chinese Academy of Sciences (ESSP) and sponsored bythe Wuhan Branch of the National Science Library. Professor Zhang Wei, Vice Director-general and Secretary General of ESSP, Professor Zhang Zhixiong, Director of the Wuhan Branch of the National Science Library, Chen Dan, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the Wuhan Branch of the National Science Library, Academician of Chinese Academy of SciencesXu Houze, Professor of Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Cai Qinghua, young scientist of Institute of Hydrobiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, LuXianrong, Secretary of Scientific Journal Editorial Society in Hubei Province attended this salon. 37 editorial offices of scientific periodicals from Chinese Academy of Sciences, universities and colleges and 76 editors from related institutions participated in this salon.
This salon consisted of two parts: keynote report and editorial forum.
Li Yuan,Deputy Director of the Scientific Journal and Knowledge Service Center of National Science Library of Chinse Academy of Sciences wasinvited to give a keynote report. She introduced the periodical reform program of Chinese Academy of Sciences and explained the design of WeChat management platform for scientific journals in order to realize the scientific research exchange, promote the science communication, achieve the journal integration and ameliorate the academic management. Furthermore, she elaborated in four aspects: one journal’s WeChat public number, the journal cluster’s WeChat public number, the micro station and the management platform, providing beneficial exploration for the knowledge service of academic journals in a mobile and open environment.
This salon also invited Professor Zhang Zhixiong togive a keynote report called “the New Technological Method of the Academic Journal Knowledge Service in a Mobile and Open Environment”. He pointed out that in the environment of the mobile interconnection, open science and knowledge services, the pre-print mechanism could be fully used to change the academic communication mode, the rich media technology could be applied to present periodical papers, andthe semantic enhancement could be used to achieve several technological goals such as the accurate search of knowledge contents. Finally, he showed several cases to introduce the active practice in the system construction of the mobile journal cluster knowledge service.
After the keynote reports, all the participants started discussions about the opportunities and problems facing the academic journal knowledge service, the new trend, new modes and new needs of the academic journal knowledge service, the practical experience and operational management of the academic journal knowledge service, the method of enhancing the quality and influence of the academic journal through the knowledge service. They put forward specific suggestions and thoughts, and contributed their insights. During this salon, participants also visited the Wuhan Branch of the National Science Library.
Professor Zhang Wei made concluding remarks on this salon.She figured out thatthe Editological Society of Scientific Periodicals of Chinese Academy of Sciences hosted four periodical salons in 2017 and each of them had characteristics. The former two salons emphasized the working experience exchange and the latter two stressed the exploration of the trend of the newest concepts.
Zhang Wei also mentioned that the rapid development of information technologies brought up the change of the scientific communication activities. We could use the technologies such as rich media publication and knowledge mining to present the contents in a more in-depth way and provide more accurate services. The department in charge of the journals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences timely predicted this development trend and put forward the goal and requirements of the periodical reform catering to the development. The current exploration of the Editological Society of Scientific Periodicals of Chinese Academy of Sciencesaimed at providing support for decision-making.
The 13th Periodical Salon of Chinese Academy of Sciences was the last one in 2017. Professor Zhang Wei hoped that the salon activities of the Editological Society of Scientific Periodicals of Chinese Academy of Sciences became the public academic communication platform that played a leading role in terms of concepts, shared practice experience worth learning, and communicated ideas worth discussing.
The participants positively respond to this salon.They think that this salon has triggered the thinking fire, and showed the charm of practice. The theme of this salon is bright and the horizon of the keynote reports is broad and the contents are informative. In this salon, participants took liberal discussions, and they communicated their ideas. Their thoughts on the knowledge service of academic journals in a mobile and open environment were enhanced.
