2017 China Fair Use Week was held in Beijing |

The 2017 China Fair Use Week successfully held in Beijing City on 4-5 May 2017. It was jointly organized by National Science Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Peking University Library. The Knowledge and Technology Research and Development Center, a department of National Science Library, was responsible for organizing the lectures and round-table forums. The topic of this China Fair Use Week was "Copyright Fair Use in Information Services ", attracting participants from the scientific community, the publishing community, the library community and the public. China Fair Use Week carried out two seminars in National Science Library and Peking University Library. On May 4, Prof. Xiwen Liu, Deputy Director of National Science Library, presided over the meeting at the venue of National Science Library. He pointed out that China Fair Use Week was valuable for innovating the knowledge service model, and promoting the dissemination of information by making full use of the flexibility given by law. May 5, Prof. HuaNie, Associate University Librarian of Peking University Library, hosted the meeting at the Peking University Library. She stressed that China Fair Use Week provides a platform and opportunity to discuss copyright fair use in the new technical environment and research paradigm. It is significant for putting forward the views of China's national conditions, and promoting the relevant academic exchanges. Seminars focused on the issues of Limitations and Exceptions of Copyright, High-Education Institutions’ Fair Use Policy, Open Content Management of Digital Resource, and International Publishers' Text and Data Mining Policies. Ms. Kunhua Zhao, the Open Access Commissioner of NAL, gave lectures on the issues of Limitations and Exceptions of Copyright and Open Content Management of Digital Resource. Dr. Li-Ping Ku (Alan Ku), a Professor of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave lectures on the issues of High-Education Institutions’ Fair Use Policy and International Publishers' Text and Data Mining Policies. The conference in Peking University Library was broadcast live. Site participants and network participants launched a positive discussion around these topics in the subsequent roundtable forum.
