NSLC Delegation Participates in the International Symposium on "Exploring Publishing Infrastructure to Support Open Science"

From February 4th to 5th, 2026, the international symposium titled "Exploring Publishing Infrastructure to Support Open Science", hosted by the Public Library of Science (PLOS), was held in Brussels, Belgium. The event brought together over 30 invited experts and representatives from global academic organizations, research institutions, libraries, infrastructure platforms, and international publishers. A delegation led by Director Liu Xiwen from NSLC attended the symposium.

The symposium focused on the transformation of research output dissemination and service models within in the era of open science. The discussions revolved around the linkage and sharing mechanisms of various research outputs (including papers, data, code, etc.), as well as the concept of the "Knowledge Stack" for future publishing transformation and its influence on the open scholarly communication ecosystem.

During the presentation session, Director Liu Xiwen introduced the progress of "Open for Science 10", an open science initiative put forward by the Chinese scientific community in support of the UNESCO "Science Decade" strategy. He also shared the Library's practical experience in developing an open science infrastructure sharing network and service innovations, which attracted extensive attention from participants and sparked in-depth discussions on potential cooperation and partnership. On the sidelines of the meeting, Director Liu, representing the NSLC, held strategic talks with PLOS and reached an agreement to permanently preserve Open Access (OA) article data published by PLOS within the National Digital Preservation Program (NDPP) of China.

The symposium served as a vital platform for in-depth exchanges and cooperation among international Open Science infrastructure providers and the publishing industry. It marks a significant step in amplifying the global influence of China's Open Science infrastructure development and accelerating the transition toward a sustainable Open Access landscape.
